It is the distinction in continuity that identifies tradition.

Modern restoration is a discipline based on individual and collective values of life. It studies the monument, paying attention to  all of the historical layers, setting itself on a democratic plane of free choice in a historic space that is a public space, a piece of the site's culture, in which all of its inhabitants are trustees....

Those who work in restoration cannot but cultivate this dignity in an absolutely special way. --

Welcome to the virtual home of The Tahoe Foundation!

This is the place where we invite YOU to help us discover
how to preserve
Lake Tahoe's and the West's place in America's Histories
and the World's Heritage through Architecture Conservation & Preservation Planning Education!

While our name is inspired by the place, Lake Tahoe, it really began as
an acronym...Transit- Architecture- Heritage- Outreach-Education..
which is evolving into a new concept in architecture conservation and preservation planning education.
This education project  will continue to help students, and  professionals, interested in architecture conservation to  learn the criteria and standards to assist property owners to understand their own sites history.
We have and are still cultivating the Tahoe Method™ a unique teaching concept to engage folks in telling their story about what they find important about the places
which help to define a personal meaning of " home,".  Our education effort begins with the ideas of surveying transit sites- public by nature, which leads to discussions about how to apply such training to assist private property owners if they desire to understand what might be used to place their homes or businesses in an historic context, and how such interactions may empower them to protect and maintain unique features or building components unique to their residential or commercial structure,  or building site.
While our work began with many, including the Washo people, we do not limit, nor endorse any particular history as being more important than any other; but rather desire to assist those in learning the criteria and standards required by the Library of Congress in the event any  private property owner or public property manager is interested in utilizing such criteria and standards in any architecture conservation or preservation protection context.

Our First Big Project
The Tahoe Foundation Registry - Coming Soon!
In the early 1950's a typical evening's entertainment for Ripley kids was sitting in the bus shelter watching the traffic, in the vain hope that a sports car would go by, and once every six months we might see an Aston Maritn
or a Ferrari, which would make our day.
